Left Tail light not working

Hi, Recently my LEFT brake/tail bulb blew and when i replaced the bulb it only works when i press the brake and the tail light doesn't come on when i have my lights on.

But my RIGHT tail/brake light works fine so i thought in the off chance i have a faulty bulb id switch the bulbs around taking the bulb the the working right side but when i put it into the left side the tail light never worked just as before with the bulb working only when i press the prake pedal.

Couple of points to note.

The Car is Ford Focus 2004 (54 plate uk)

The tail light and brake light are the same bulb p21/5w.

I have not botherd to look at the fuses as my right tail light works fine and so do the rest of my lights.

Any help would be appreciated

Is the socket ok?

im not to sure but i thought about that, im gonna check tomorro when i have a little light. if it was the socket how much would a replacement 1 normally cost?
