Default 93 Escort Battery Troubles

Hello all,

Im hoping this is an electrical problem. I recently acquired a 93 Escort Wagon and about a week later, after putting gas in it, it would not start back up. This was completely unexpected and it would not even crank when charged. I went up to a friends house and borrowed their extra battery, whereupon it started just fine. I wirebrushed the old battery, thinking it was just corroded and put it back in. The wagon started, but hard, and worked like that for about a week, then it wouldnt turn over anymore. I went and bought a brand-new battery last Friday and it was starting and running great. Yesterday evening, however, it would not start again! It doesnt even crank or click, and the lights dont come on. Im a student and just about to finish my semester. Any guidance would be so greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Katrina
