Was the key cut from the vin or was it a trace cut?

not too sure but even the original key i had for the car is not working properly now, what is the difference between a trace cut and one done via the vin?

a trace key the machine traces your key to make the new one so if it is really worn it may not be much beter than the old one.
vin key they put your vin in the machine a nd it cuts the key to exact depths

sounds the tumblers in the cylinder may be the problem
