i have a 1993 ford explorer xlt with power door locks, when im driving it down the road, the door locks tend to go crazy sometimes by locking and un locking repeatily. gets a little annoying after a while, anyone have a similar problem?
My 1999 Ford F150 Explorer Hightop Conversion Van is in a constant "locking" mode, it started 3 days ago only when the side door was open, today it went into constant mode and has yet to stop. I removed the "fuse" to stop the madness. My vehicle was only "locking", not unlocking and locking but I sure would like an answer if anyone has one. It will be a PIB if I have to manually lock the doors from now on because I had to remove the fuse. I was afraid my battery would die because it doesn't stop when the van is turned off.
HELP SOMEONE PLEASE!!! (I recently had it at a ford dealership to have the faulty recalled cruise control fixed, I asked if it had a remote for the doors and they could not find a module, this is a cream of the crop, leather int, cd, TV, gaming, power seats, heated front seats, electric bench, the works, i can't imagine it would have a remote keyless entry for it, they said due to the fact that it was a conversion, perhaps they put the module in another place, they tried the repeated on-off key thing to try to get into the program mode and it did not work) I told them the doors were locking on their own with the side door open (last friday) and they all just looked at me and had no answers.
I have had this problem too for quite a while (almost a year?). When I'm driving (I have a 2001 Ford Taurus) the locks and dome light go crazy (locking/unlocking, the dome light flashes on and off and my door ajar light and beep go on and off). I have tested all the doors to make sure they are closing properly but it did not help.
I also just removed the fuse to temporally "fix" the problem until we find a way to fix it with out taking it to a dealership and spending a ton of money. My boyfriend is currently in an automotive school and his teacher have heard of this problem with Fords however they have no idea how to fix it as none of their suggestions have helped.
I needed a new battery about 6 months ago and after we replaced the battery we also tried putting the fuse back in hoping it might help it some how. It did stop for about a month but came back just like before. Maybe this will be something that would fix it in your car? Sometimes when you disconnect the battery the car will "forget" the problems it was having before.
IF ANYONE FINDS A WAY TO FIX THIS PLEASE CONTACT ME, IT'S DRIVING ME NUTS!

Reason: FORGOT TO ADD SOMETHING!
I had the same problem with my 2002 Ford Explorer. I had the problem fixed 3 years ago at the dealer. The problem is back. I thought they told me it was a relay. I tried replacing the door switch, but it didn't work. The locks go crazy, locking and unlocking while driving. Also, if you lock your doors using the lock button on the arm rest of the door, the door will not lock, the interior lights stay on in the car when you exit because the car thinks a door is open and the horn beeps twice if you try to lock them with your remote. Fortunately, the remote and the keyless entry pads allow you to lock the doors, but the lights stay on til the timer shuts them off. I'm surprised Ford hasn't had a lawsuit over it yet... seems like there could be some liability if the car won't let you lock it when exiting and lights up your interior for the crooks and if it unlocks itself when you're driving.

Any idea why locks would activate between lock/unlock(all doors, even when switches are disconnected).
I'm looking for a relay for a 2001 Exp Sport because my door locks are activating like popcorn when the fuse is in. I am guessing a bad relay because the connections look ok. Ray
Well guys, add one more to the club. 1998 E150. Mine only happens when it is damp/rainy.
I have studied the wiring on my vehicle (and I suspect it is very similar to all Ford vehicles).
First, everything, all locks, all switches and the remote, all connect or are built in to Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) module. It also has sensor on the door handles. The RKE can turn on the interior light, the headlights and the horn. So there are a lot of connections.
There are no relays external to this module except the standard headlight and horn relays, which are also used by the standard headlight switch and horn button.
There are only 2 grounds for the entire system. Where these 2 grounds are located is obviously different from vehicle to vehicle.
Why 2 grounds ? Well my speculation is one ground (actually 2 pins on my RKE module) is likely a "high current" ground for running the door lock motors, the lights, etc. The other is likely a separate ground for the "electronics" in the module.
My next quest is to locate these ground point, clean them thoroughly, coat them with some silicon dielectric grease and reattach. I also plan on cleaning the contacts of the RKE module and greasing them.
IT appears that there are a few relays invovled.
A door lock memory relay
a lock relay and a unlock relay.
The schematic only shows that they exist, but does not show where to find the buggers.
I am currently on a quest to get the pinouts for the GEM so that I can troubleshoot from under the dash instead of opening each door panel and testing.
