Default guages not working on 86 gt

I had this 86gt since new. Dash guages have worked on and off for years. Tired of not knowing how much gas I have. History: Had dash guage cluster out twice. Changed the snap on voltage part twice & disconnected the two plug in wire harnesses to the cluster and cleaned and polished up the contacts. Works for little while. The Alt and tach work. The oil/water and gas guage do not. In addition the low fuel lite on the console is also on. What to do? Is there a fix?

Continuing saga: What I replaced twice so far is what they call a Insturment Voltage Reducer. Last time I replaced, Ford gave me the wrong part number, they look alike. PN: GR-513, D1AZ 10804-A is for a 1971-1973 Ford not an 86 Mustang gt. It did plug in and worked for awhile. I need to determine what is the correct part number for the 86 GT? The IVR reduces from 12volts to 5volts where the guages appear to be happiest. What would be ideal would be an adjustable IVR or Mechaical Guages.

I'd consider heading to the salvage yards and picking up a whole instrument cluster.
