I have a problem with my driver window not opening. I get a clicking noise from the door. I assume from a relay. All other windows work from the master console on the drivers door with no problem - although the rear windows may hesitate to open at times.
Before I start dismantling too much, what is the correct approach to diagnose the problem? Because everything else works, I assume it is going to be the motor or the switch to that motor.
Are there any fuses/relays/connections that I need to check first?
How can I check if the switch is ok?
If they are ok, I expect I will have to rip the door apart and check the motor itself.
Do I need to purchase any special test equipment? If so, recommendations please - with an eye on cost.
What vehicle year etc. ?
Sounds like a motor or regulator.
You will need a test lamp to check the switch just put it in line in place of the motor.
I guess some vehicles might have drivers door module that could be clicking though....
Thanks for the reply. I have a 2000 windstar xl 3.8.
Before I take the door apart, I would like to check fuses, relays etc. but not sure which ones to check. My Haynes doesn't offer that info.
I can check fuses easily but I would probably need to replace a relay with another one to test. are all relays the same? could I swap one with another for testing purposes? which fuses and relays should I check?
Ok,door panel it is.
I need to get up to Autozone. What should I get by way of a tester. I'm not a mechanic but I'm willing to give it a go, so bear with me.
