Default 96 explorer continous battery drain

i have a 96 ford explorer 4.0L 4x4. I have a known good battery (brand new) but when hooked up with the key out of the igniton i get a continous battery drain all the way down to right under 8 volts within a few hours.
i have checked all the fuses under the hood and most in the cabin, along with the alternator. once when i pulled the 28 fuse for the gem system it stopped the drain for about a day, however the next day i started it and drove for a few hours came home parked it and within the hour the battery was just under 8 volts again. pulling that fuse now has done nothing. so my question is what could be causing the battery to drain so quickly, or could the problem be internal in the battery?/?

Check your vehicle for loose wires or wires that are grounding out. I had a problem like that when I bought my 94 tbird. Had a bad battery. But there were issues with the wires all the terminals were loose. Check to see if there are clean connections. Might want to replace the battery for it could have a dead cell from being drained like that. The battery when I bought the car was new. But had a dead cell from the consistent drain. Cleaned and replaced a few wiring issues no problem to date.
