Default Power door lock unlocks-will not lock

The only switch working on my 2000 E350 is the driver's door switch and it only will unlock the other doors and will not lock them. Any ideas out there?

Do you have a keyless entry or not ? The wiring is very different.

IIRC, without keyless entry the switches are all "daisy chained". Driver door first, passenger door second. Sounds like a problem with the passanger door switch/wiring.

Default It's changed...

Now none of the switches are working and I get only a "semi door locking/unlocking" sound from the doors when jarred...it will go on and on.

You can pop the panel that hold the power lock and power window button out by inserting a small flat screwdriver into the little slot and while pushing in, gently pry up. Do this on both doors.

Getting to the back of power lock button on the rear door is more of a challenge. You have to remove the plastic trim that goes around the window to expose at least on to the screws. Look for plastic buttons that cover the over screw(s). once all of the screws are out the bottom trim panel slides up and pops off.

You will need a digital volt meter. If your lucky, you can buy one on sale at Sears for $10-15. If you have a Harbor Freight or other "cheap tool" place nearby, you can frequently buy them for under $5.

Set the meter to volts, connect the negative side to a good clean ground and check for 12V on the black with white stripe wire on each switch. If not, you have a broken wire someplace.

The next check is more difficult and requires a long piece of wire. Connect one end of the wire to the negative side of the battery and the other end to the negative side of the volt meter. Make certain these connections are secure. Put the meter on the lowest resistance (ohms) setting. Now measure at the 2 black wire on the lock switch on the passenger door. It should be less than 100 ohm. If not, you have a ground problem.

I'm guessing it is a ground problem, but I don't know exactly where that connection to ground is.

TSB 98-18-3
  • Water leaks - onto rear door power lock switch
  • Power door locks - self activate or inoperative when vehicle is wet
  • Remote keyless entry - inoperative when vehicle is wet
LIGHT TRUCK: 1996-1998 ECONOLINE (possibly other years)

ISSUE:
Power door locks self activate, are inoperative, or remote keyless entry may be inoperative when vehicle is or has been wet. Water leaks onto the rear door power lock switch. This may be caused by:
  • Low torque on the door glass nuts
  • Door glass butyl rope seal off location
  • Porosity in sealant between the door seal C-channel-to-door sheet metal
  • Water entering inside the door from the hinges or check strap
ACTION:

Repair leak and/or install water shield. Refer to the following Service Procedure for details.

NOTE: IF THE POWER LOCKS/REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY ARE INOPERATIVE OR SELF-ACTIVATING AT THE TIME OF REPAIR, APPLICABILITY OF THIS TSB MAY BE CONFIRMED BY DISCONNECTING THE REAR DOOR SWITCH AND RETESTING. IF THE POWER LOCKS FUNCTION NORMALLY, THIS TSB WILL CORRECT THE CONCERN.

SERVICE PROCEDURE

Remove the interior trim halo moulding and door trim panel from the right rear door by referring to the procedures in the 1998 Econoline Workshop Manual. Perform the following Rear Door Glass, Door Seal C-Channel, and Door Hinges And Check Strap leak tests and repair procedures.

NOTE: VEHICLE MAY SELF-LOCK DURING WATER TEST. BE SURE KEYS ARE ACCESSIBLE.

REAR DOOR GLASS

Using water hose, direct water around the edge of the right rear door. Inspect for water leaks. If the door glass leaks, retighten nuts to 2.5 N-m (22 lb-in). If retightening the glass nuts does not stop the leak, replace the Rear Door Glass Module (F6UZ-15420A034-AA).
DOOR SEAL C-CHANNEL

Inspect for gaps and holes in the factory applied sealer along the outboard side of the C-channel(Figure 1) (weatherstrip is pulled out of C-channel in Figure 1). Using a water bottle, force water into any hole to see if a leak occurs, allowing water to exit the opposite side of the C-channel. Adjust hose to spray pattern and direct water across the rear end of the roof and at the top of the door. Inspect for water leaks. If leaks are found using either test, reseal the entire length of each side of the C-channel to the door sheet metal using clear silicone sealant.


DOOR HINGES AND CHECK STRAP

The hinges and check strap are not sealed and leaks are always expected. Install a Water Shield (XC2Z-15402A08-AA) to the door sheet metal(Figure 2). Route the switch wiring and connector under the bottom edge of the water shield(Figure 3). Be careful the water shield is not pulled loose by the wiring.
