Question Instrumentation Light Problem

About 8 months ago, the insturmention cluster lights on my 2001 Taurus SES began to operate intermittantly after the headlights were turned on. When they did not work, the turn signal indicator lights would come on. Now, everytime I turn the headlights on, the turn signal indicators stay on all the time, and my other lights do not work. All of the other dash lights for the EC panel, shifter, and radio work, just not the lights for the speedometer or tach assemblies. Our Ford tech says its most likely corrosion in the instrument cluster wire bundle. But he also says the only way to get to it is by taking apart the entire dash assembly. Any body else run into this problem?
