I have a 99 Ranger and just ran into the same problem. I partially removed the grill assembly. First, beneath the headlight assembly remove the 2 screws holding the black piece of plastic behind the bumper. Remove the 2 screws beneath the turn signal light, the assembly will pop right out with a good tug. Next, remove the 2 8mm bolts holding the grill assembly to the fender. With the hood open, there are 2 8mm bolts holding the grill assembly to a bracket to the left or right of the headlight you're trying to replace. Lastly, remove the 8mm bolt holding the grill assembly to the center bracket. You should be able to pull the headlight (along with grill work) out far enough to get behind the headlight and get the bulb out. It's a bunch of BS the way engineers design vehicles so that a 5 minute bulb replacement turns into a half hour project. When you reattach the grill work, attach the end to the fender first, everything lines up better that way. At least it did for me. |
