Default OEM Stereo Help for 05 Escape

My clock/radio display on my factory stereo no longer illuminates, however, the rest of the stereo lights up (i.e., dials, buttons, etc). and eveything else works perfectly.

I removed the unit to see if there was a bulb that is interchangable but apparently there is not. Since this is driving me crazy, do I have any other option other than replacing the entire unit over a faulty light?

I'm reluctant to replace the unit because I'm pretty spoiled by the 6 CD changer and can't justify paying my local dealership $550.00 to replace it.

Also, when I removed it, I unplugged the cable from the back but could not disconnect the wire harness. If I do have to repalce it, what is the best way to remove the wire harness without damaging it?

Thanks!
