 Voltage surge and drop
I have a 130 amp alternator in my 60' Falcon with a serpentine system. This past Friday I was leaving in the morning for a show in the rain and I noticed the lights were dim and my volts were reading just below 12 volts. As I went on it jumped back up to 13.5. All was fine for a while then it dropped down again for a while then back to 13.5. Then it jumped to about 15 volts and the lights flicked like I hit the high beams. Coming back later that day without lights it was fine, reading 13.5 volts. Next day, sunny and dry with no lights on it starts the drop and jump scenario like in the rain. My guess is that the internal regulator is going out. I plan on taking it out and having it tested, but it may be in the working mode during the test. Any help is appreciated. |
