Can you hear the noise in Park, so that we can rule out major drive train related component noises? Is the power steering fluid up to level since this can make an awful noise.
Jonmark 1985 has a good suggestion for the noise occurring in Park. Components that make a whining noise generally have faulty bearings and include: belt idler pulley, belt tensioner pulley, alternator, power steering pump and A/C compressor, but can also include the front pump and torque converter on the transmission. See if you can isolate the sound to the passenger side with the serpentine belt, or the drivers side with the transmission.
1. See if Jonmark's suggestion of listening or touching components helps to isolate the problem;
2. Can you hear any noises from the belt when engine is running, perhaps indicating a higher than normal load and is the belt running true over all components, or is there any wobbling;
3. Remove the serpentine belt and check the free movement of all the components noted above. Bearings should move smoothly with no free play at all. No roughness is allowed in the bearings either.
Hope this helps.
