Default Installing new fitting in plastic fuel lines

I have a 2001 Ford Windstar and while I was installing a new Fuel pump I busted off one of the quick disconnect fittings on a plastic feed line. Has anyone every replaced one of these fittings? I have a new fitting. I have heard that you just heat up the line in boiling water and insert the new fitting and let it cool. Does this seem correct?

Thanks,
Ryan

I have never tried to repair such a fitting. Cooling the fitting with ice water and heating the tube with steam from boiling water would provide a larger temperature difference that may help.

Also, plastic fuel lines are becoming popular as replacements of steel fuel lines. If you find a supplier then they may be able to help with the proper procedure.

I have seen repair kits at local Autoparts stores.
