I have never tried to repair such a fitting. Cooling the fitting with ice water and heating the tube with steam from boiling water would provide a larger temperature difference that may help.
Also, plastic fuel lines are becoming popular as replacements of steel fuel lines. If you find a supplier then they may be able to help with the proper procedure.
