Default weird noise coming from intake manifold

i have a 1995 ford thundebird lx 3.8L.. whenever im stopped at a red light a deep humming noise starts up and can be very loud at times..i mean people can hear it if there right next to it or accross the street..the only time it goes away is if i hit the gas..then it might come right back..i tried cleaning the throttle body but it wasnt that cause i put it back on and it kept happening. this has been such a strong annoyance especially for me who has OCD. so could anybody help please answer..thanx alot..

Brian.

The "MOOSE" is positively reinforced feedback (think microphone next to speaker) of intake air pulses by the idle air control valve. Possible solutions include fixing any intake resonator or hose damage, replacing the IAC, replacing the timing belt, replacing the MAF...

Any of these things, as well as others, can cause this problem. Some people have had luck with small modifications to the resonator or other intake hoses. I do not believe there is an official fix for the problem on this engine.

I agree with GORT. Most likely the IAC. A quick way to check the IAC is to take it off and plug the two holes in the intake. Start the engine and see if the noise is still there. IACs are common for the noise described. Try it and let us know what you find.

It should have two 8mm bolts holding it on. Try not to damage the gasket- you may have to reuse it.

Sometimes the noise will change or temporarily stop if you tap on the iac valve

An intake resonator is a hard plastic duct or any additional (usually dead-end) hoses attached between the throttle body, MAF, and sometimes the IAC. Not all engines have one and I am not really up on the 3.8.
