Question Ford Fusion 2007 Transmission issue

Hello,
My fiance owns a 2007 Ford Fusion and today she started it up and drove down the street for work, but it would not go over 20 mph and the engine RPM was really high. She stopped and tried it again, still the same problem. She called the dealership and they came and towed it and got her a rental mini-van.

Now the dealership called her and says she must have been driving it in 'low' gear and she has to pay for the rental car...she was not driving it in low gear!

Has anyone else experienced this so we can tell the dealership what to look for? This isn't the first issue we've had with the car, but this is the first time they are saying they couldn't find anything with it.

Thanks!

This isn't probably what you want to hear but your wife could have accidentally drove around in 1,2 gear on the high way and toasted it. It would have sounded really bad so I'm guessing she didn't. Try looking for any recalls or TSBs on your car. It is possible there is something wrong that Ford did in the manufacturing.

Don’t know if this will help, but I had to replace a Trans in a 08 Fusion 4 banger. The fluid was burnt but not black, no trouble set in the PCM/TCM and had some slippage in all gears. When I dropped the pan I found a little burnt clutch material. The Trans on the fusion I worked on is built by Mazda and none serviceable.

I agree with firstwindstar02. however make sure they show you documentation on the invoice shows that they ran all the transmission tests there suppose to and came up with no problem found – witch buy the way I think Ford under warranty pays for. Just because it happened to you and they could duplicate the concern doesn’t mean it didn’t happened or a problem still exist. Keep all your records, if the problem returns try to give them as much helpful info as possible as to when where and what kind of driving conditions at time of problem.

Thank you for the replies. The dealership did say they ran all the tests and found something 'minor', so they didn't charge her for anything. The odd part, it didn't duplicate for them and it hasn't since for her. We're hoping it won't happen again.

If you've ever driven a 2007 fusion, you'd know that it's impossible to drive in Low gear without knowing it -- the stupid transmission drags in Drive, and Low is like slogging through a pile of gravel. Thanks
