92 Escort GT Idle Problems This is a bit of a long explaination, so bear with me. Anyways, about two weeks or so ago, the car started acting funny. I'd turn on the heater to the second position or higher, and the RPMs would decrease. Same thing with the headlights. Turn 'em off, they go back to where they should be. Well, about a week later, it started doing it, but without any loads on the electrical system at all. It'll idle about at about 500 or so RPMs with no elec sys load. Turn on the headlights, it goes below that, and dies. However, it'll do that even without any sys load at all. When I first start it, it idles great, then as it warms up, it'll start having this problem. It cranks fine, and so forth. However, when it's warm, and I'm at a stop light, it'll either idle crappy, again, 500 or below, or it'll go even lower, then die. Restarts without problems. Car drives great otherwise, don't have a clue as to what's causing it. Originally thought it was the voltage regulator at the very start of this, however now, I'm thinking it's one of a few things, or possibly a combination: voltage regulator completely shot, alternator itself giving out, drive belts loose (have squealed before, possibly loose), vacuum leak somewhere, or fuel pump going weird. Any and all help would be appreciated. |
