Default 94 Ranger 4.0L EFI, Engine Mods-Suggestions Please!
I have a 94 Ranger with a fuel injected 4.0L in it, it has a auto trans. I would like to make some minor engine mods. Apart from an exhaust, I am wanting to get a performance chip and maybe a cam. I must admit I am a avid Rotary man and know all about my Rotaries. But when it comes to piston engines, I dont know too much. Does anyone have any suggestions on performance chips, what kind where to get them so on and also what kind of cam to install, I prefer the lumpy low idle. So any help or suggestions would be greatly useful.

Performance chips are available at most parts centers that specialize in performance parts. Any cam must fit within the specs for your engine - lumpy cams and computers don't get along very well - it upsets the O2 sensor readings.

Intake reversion pulses cause the MAF sensor to send incorrect info. It's made to read only in one direction. That throws off spark and injector timing. Kinda like when a carb isn't calibrated for the new parameters.

ford pcms are pretty good at adapting to aftermarket cams and other mods

If ypu keep a cam close to stock yes it will adapt. You can even get into that program and modify it.

look into a sct programmer.i have one from henson performance.com.it really helped!
