04 5.4 noise

hey everyone;
have an '04 f-150,with an engine noise...it is a 5.4 with 87,000 miles on it.
had a mechanic take a peak at it and without doing too much thought that the noise was coming from the bottom end, first he thought might be valves,then perhaps injector noise ...he went under the truck and said the noise was louder under neath..told him next time I was due for service I would leave it with him. the noise does not seem to inhibit performance yet, but am curious if others with the same engine are having any of these problems....

The 5.4 engines are known to have strong bottom ends and weak top ends.
It would help if you could describe it - clicking? thump? knock?
Does the noise follow the engine speed? Does it do it in neutral? In gear? at an idle? at higher speeds? What kind of transmission do you have?
You have to give a bit more info for us to help.

I had an 2003 and now have an 2006 F-150 with the 5.4 and both had the same noise. on both occasions it was the manifold cracked on the passenger side. The dealer will say it's normal for the 5.4L because they are noisy engines, if it's under warrenty, but have the mechanic kneel down and listen and make sure he hears the same thing you do and he won't have a choice but the agree. this happen to me on both occasions. I pull with my truck a lot so I'm not sure if that's reason or the manifolds just have a fault with them.
