Default 1999 f 250 engine swap

I recently purchased a 1999 f 250 quad cab v-8 with manual transmission. Can i switch the gas engine for a diesel? and if so how hard would this be to do?

It can be done, but there will be lots of work to do. The engine and the trans have to be changed along with the wire harnesses and computer/modules. If you go to diesel, the turbo and intercooler has to be put in and the exhaust will need changing. Can be done, but not very practical. Cheaper and less head ache to buy a truck that is diesel from the start.

especially since even a used diesel engine is thousands of dollars.
