Default Ford Lightning - Final Drive

I really like the 2nd Generation Ford Lightnings (99-04).

However I don't NEED a race-truck.. I don't need a truck that's capable of 13seconds down the track.

with gas prices now-a-days.. the better gas milage the better.

the first batch of 2nd Gen. Lightnings (99-00) came out with 360HP and 3.55 Gear Rear.. estimating 20MPG Highway.

the second batch of lightnings (01-04) came out with 380HP and 3.73 Gear Ratio estimating only 17MPG Highway.

----------------------

so heres the question...

is it possible to put a smaller gear like say 308 or something to better it's gas mileage??

Many of you strive on Ford Performance, esp if it's SVT.. but to be honest.. to each his own. I want a truck, not a race truck, and I love the Lightning Model. so please.. no bashing.

I know nothing about fords, and possibilities.
so any information would be greatly appreciated.

I'm pretty sure they still have a nine inch rear don't they? You could pretty much swap in whatever you wanted, there are all kinds of companies that make gearsets for a nine inch

No, they had a 8.8 the 9" was long gone by then.

We had a 98 f150 with the v6, it was peppy and got great gas mileage.

Not to hijack this thread, but what was the last year for the 9"? And by the way, should be lots of gearing options for the 8.8 as well, since they were offered in Mustangs, fairmonts, t-birds, Rangers and aerostars.Hope this helps
