Unhappy ETC: Fail Safe Mode

My 2005 Explorer XLT just started running rough and then my message display read "ETC-Fail Safe Mode" and the orange wrench lights up stating that truck is running in "Limp Mode". Also, "Service Engine Soon" light is lit up. At idle, truck is idling very rough. Last night, when I was driving and hit the brakes to make a turn, the engine quit and I had to coast to side of road. Let engine sit a while and then restarted but I had to push gas pedal a good ways down to keep engine running because would not idle without engine dying. Please help.
