Any self-respecting parts store will sell a fuel pressure gauge. Autozone may even have one in their loaner tool program. Usually the gauge set runs about $40 but it is an invaluable that will pay off as the years go by.

You might talk to some of your buddies that work on cars and they may have something you can borrow.

BTW I'd worry about the vapor-lock issue when you get to that bridge.

just because the switch on your dash is set to the rear tank doesn't mean that the electric valve between the tanks has actually switched to the rear tank. put a gallon or two of fuel into the front tank and crank it for a few seconds, if it starts you know you need to replace that valve/switch.

alright. it turns out the fuel tank switch/ valve was bad so i transferred all the fuel to the front tank and now it starts and runs. but now i need to know how to fix the vapor lock problem any ideas?
