Hello All, Is there a way to pull codes on the 05 Taurus without having to have the reader unit? Also, should the reader unit get a response if the check engine light isn't on? i got a reader one time, check engine light wasn't on, but i know most cars have a code to share, and i got absolutely nothing back from the cars computer. Thank Ya much.

Reason: Failure to Thank properly
No... You need the scanner to pull codes on all vehicles 95 and up... And no you wont get any codes if the light isnt on because OBDII doesn't store codes, they are all on demand... Just go to Autozone and ask them for the scanner instead of them doing for you unless you never used one before and write down the codes then have them print them out... Their print outs give you more detailed info on if it was a false code and possible solutions on fixing it.
Yea if you have an expensive scanner that gives more detailed info... I worked at Autozone for 4 yrs and every person that wanted a code scan when their light wasnt on said "Passed No Codes".
