| 96 Escort tranny problem HI, new member here.
96 escort 119,000 miles, auto trans. Bought new and have never had a problem. Till now. Wife was driving down the interstate and all of a sudden it was like you put the car in neutral. No noise, leaks, or anything unusual. Motor just revved up and that was it. Will not move at all. Can a trans go out just that quick? Seems like there would have been some kind of warning sign.
Thanks for any thoughts you may have on this matter.

| Inspect the transmission fluid and make sure it's at the mark... If thats ok make sure you didn't snap a CV joint they can break w/o noise. Jack up the front end and spin the wheels one at a time to see if it spins the axles to the tranny... If the axles spin too im afraid you need a new transaxle... |

| Fluid is full. Raised front end and if I spin one wheel it makes the other one turn the opposite way. I assume the axles are ok, right? The question is: should they turn with the tranny in park? Because they do.
Thanks, Patrick |
