400 timing chain I have been wondering. A friend told me that if you bought a pre-70's timing chain for the ford 400 or 460 engine and put it on a later model, like an 80's model, it will increase your horsepower and fuel mileage because it advances the timing. The reason is after the 70's emission control required engines timing to be retarded to reduce emissions, which in turn reduces horsepower. Will buying a pre-70's timing chain and putting it on an 80's engine give it more power?(specifically the ford 400). Thanks. |
