96 Ford Explorer won't start in heat This problem started last year, with my explorer not starting after a quick stop (i.e. filling up gas tank, picking up kid from school). It didn't do it often and usually started after about 5-10 minutes or so. Now that the weather has gotten hotter, it does it more often and for longer periods of time. Yesterday I was at the store for about 30 minutes, came out and would not start. After about another hour and lifting up the hood for that hour, it started.
The engine turns over and sometimes, not always, the car will sputter and shake, like it really wants to start. I have looked all over the internet and have found similar problems, all with different solutions.
My husband is supposed to be changing the fuel filter to see if that fixes the problem, but I am wondering if it could (also) be the O2 sensor or fuel pump. The pump is over $150, so I am really hoping that isn't the problem. Any more suggestions as to self-diagnose or inexpensive changes to try?
Thanks!! |
