My daughter was driving through some of heavy rain we had on Wednesday and the service engine light came on. Pulled two codes: P0305 (cyl 5 misfire) and P0174 (bank 2 lean). I can feel a bit of roughness at idle. Car has 39K miles on it. I am going to look at the cyl 5 ignition wire connections for possible moisture. What else should I look at? Thanks.
Update: plugs were real bad and the wires marginal so I changed them and the upper manifold gasket. After 20 miles got the same codes. Idle is still not smooth. Looking down the cyl 5 spark plug hole I can see that the top of the piston is wet, cyl 6 looks dry. Tomorrow I will swap cyl 5 on the coil with its mate and see if the problem follows the coil position. I will also check better for vacuum leaks.
Update: replaced the lower intake gasket since I had one and cleaned a lot of the deposits out of the intake runners. Moved one injector to bank 1 from 2 and moved cyl 5 injector (misfiring cyl) to cyl 6. And, replaced the PCV. Misfire code is gone but I still have the bank 2 too lean code (P0174). Tomorrow after work I will snoop around with propane to see if I can detect any leaks. If that doesn't work I will swap all injectors from one bank to the other.
A lean bank usually goes for a bad O2 sensor. Why donīt you try to remove it? If it has moisture then dry it , if it looks dirthy try clean it with some product. I donīt know any name of one for get the job done , but you can ask at Autozone.
