My 95 windstar shifter won't go into park, only reverse. I need to open the hood and pull the cable head into park then it will start. Can someone tell me how to adjust/fix this problem? I should of looked at all the posts but I am new here so please bear with me. Also check engine light has been on for a year. I'm scared to ask how much it costs to have it checked. Any help is appreciated in advance.
yeah your shift linkage is jamed i had this happen 4 times go in from and remove mauall lever postion switch it that stupid black box spray your bolt with wd 40 and jiggle and it should go in to park
I have had the same problem with a Taurus (FYI, same engine / same tranny), while you are doing as microsfoftxpuser21 has stated, be sure to check that you have not lost a bolt allowing the linkage to 'twist' instead of 'shift'. I was sure my tranny was shot a year or so ago when this happened to me, and was thankful to have a honest tranny tech tell me exactly what it was, stick in a new bolt and send me on my way with nothing more than a handshake and a thanks.
