Engine & DrivetrainEngines and Drivetrains can be a major problem for a lot of vehicles. If you are having engine or drivetrain problems, you can post your questions/concerns about the issue. Furthermore, if you are in the process of doing an engine rebuild, post your progress with pictures.
I have a 1998 F150Xl.. It has a 4.2 in it now.. Thinking about making it into nothing but a project/toy.. I Can get my hands on a built 347 stroker and was wondering what all an engine swap would entail.. Whether it would be worth it or not.. any bit of help/info would be greatly appreciated... Thanks
I was always curios about this swap, as the i think the 4.2 is the big brother to the 3.8 and uses the same bellhousing. If this was the case then it would also use the 5.0 and other small block for bellhousing. Also the 5 speed stick shift transmission are very similar to "older" ford transmissions (looked alot like my 95's, the shifter was in a slightly different spot and the reverse switch was slightly different)
Motor mounts and brackets will probably have to be fabricated or used from another vehicle. if you have an automatic, i'd swap in a c6 or an AOD, wiring will be an issue unless you run a carb. all in all i'd rather put the motor in a 96 and earlier half ton ford.
Be better off using the modular ford v-8. There are some very nice ones that would fit much better. fordracingperformance.com has plenty to choose from. Even just google Ford modular crate engines. Most likely the case with this is the older block will not fit and you will have to manufacture a lot of parts. There are some pretty bad 5.4 liters out there for a reasonable price. You can get all the parts to swap in a built 5.4 and even get a manifold to convert it to carburation.
