Angry 1990 Econoline doesnt start...tranny i think

So, its doesnt start, unless i used a screw driver...

Replaced the battery because it needed it anyway...

Replaced the fender mounted starter solenoid...

Replaced the ignition switch...

It starts if i jump the ground to positive on the starter solenoid...so its not the solenoid or the actual starting motor...

When i put it into gear (auto transmission) it doesnt go all the way into drive...its still driveable...it is my daily driver

is my neutral safety switch bad perhaps? If so, can i do that in my driveway, or do i need to have professionals do it?

Other symptoms...back up alarm has ceased working
...when i brake or use turn signals,
tranny comes out of overdrive

I would start by fixing the shifter problem if its not lined up correctly the nuetral safety switch wont let it start.
With your foot on the brake hold the key in the start position and move the shifter from park and move it to drive and see if you can find a spot where it starts. That will verify its an adjustment problem.

PRetty likely. You could jump it to test the circuit. A short wire with two aligator clips should do. IF it starts jumped, then just pick up a new one and replace it.

OK... so I was wrong about the jumper.
Here is a picture of one for a '90 bronco, probably the same for your truck. At any rate you would have to see how to test it or just replace it.

NSS.jpg

One may review the starting circuit to determine where the wires go, and which should be 12 volts and which should ground.

Thank God you remembered that you had an E brake!
Good luck and let us know how you make out with the repair.
