Default (Road Noise) When driving

I have a 2000 Ford Taurus and just last week when getting at about 35-40 miles an hour I hear a ROAD NOISE coming from the front, sounds like hearing the wheels running on the road real hard. Someone said it might be the outside transmission bearing. Any ideas of what it may be? Sounds like at times it loud other times not as loud but still there.

Is it a hard fix?

It starts at around35-40 then get little softer when you go about 55-60

You don't hear it at 25. Sometimes it sounds louder after the car sits a day or so then as you drive may get little softer.
I did notice a vibration in the front month ago thought nothing of it , that may have something to do with it.

Oh sorry yeah I noticed if I go real fast on a curve , sharp curve it gets quieter, so yes if I pull on the wheel to one side it mellows out a little.

Did you figure out what the problem was? I have the same problem although noise (howling) seems to be coming from middle of engine compartment. Doesn't matter if car is in neutral with engine off (coasting) noise is the same, most pronounced at 45 mph but evident from 30 mph on up. I replaced left front wheel bearing but that didn't help. Boy was that a treat! That thing was froze in its mounting hole something terrible! (I had only intended to remove it to test the bearing but by the time I got it out it was shot.) I haven't started on right side yet as I'm am starting suspect transmission.

Duane, I would go for the other wheel bearing. A lot cheaper than anything with the transmission !
