Surging/whistling/PCV question 02 Explorer Sport 4.0 SOHC
Hey guys, I've never posted here before, I've got a bronco at home, but my girlfriend has an 02 Explorer Sport 4x4 with the 4.0 SOHC engine.
The CEL is on, and the truck surges a little bit at idle. It also makes a whistling sound at certain RPMs. (about midrange RPMs).
I took this thing to the stealership because when she bought it, she got an extended warranty. Well the ba$tards said that it wasn't covered, and they charged her for computer diagnostics and a fuel induction system cleaning. They said that the PCV tube had collapsed and that the IAC was bad. Well the PCV tube was replaced, as well as the PCV valve and the hose that wraps around the PCV. I haven't messed with the IAC yet because I'm cheap. I figure the surging might be caused by this.
However, I can't for the life of me figure out where the whistling is coming from. The PCV tube had holes in the rubber elbow, and I thought that would be fixed with the new plastic tube + rubber elbow, but no.
Also, I searched here, but the stupid search function won't let you search for "PCV". Her truck has the twist-in style, but it seems like the stupid thing can just pull out without much force, even when twisted in? Is that supposed to be that way? I checked the O-ring, and it seemed to be fine, but I can't understand that Ford would design this to have the PCV just "pull out" like that, without even a rubber boot. Any ideas?
Sorry for the disorganized thread, but I figured I should ask before she complains more.
