I am new to the forum and will be needing some advice
My 01 Winstar (3.8) decided not to start about 3 weeks ago. The engine would not even turn over ... I went through the whole, battery, starter and wire diagnosis and finally decided that it was an engine issue.
Took it in to my friendly Ford Dealer and after some examination ( and 1 hour of labor ) the mechanic told me that the problem was in the engine and that because of age of my vehicle it was not worth fixing ( 175,000 Kilometers - is not really high by my reckoning ). Anyhow he told me I would be in for thousands in repairs with a low likelihood of ending up with a reliable car.
I was told that the most likely ( although it was never completely diagnosed ) cause of the engine seizing was a blown gasket causing hydro-lock in a cylinder.
Any thoughts? What is the best way of diagnosing this?
I am half thinking of fixing it my self if its a head gasket. I am having trouble with the concept that this van is all of a sudden worthless.
