I feel the same way when people say their check engine light is on but continually ask questions on how to fix their car. You tell them over and over to get the codes scanned but they still want other help and never address the real issue.

The reason you have a #4 misfire is probably because that port is NOT plugged and gets more EGR flow than it can handle. That would make it misfire. The other two causes of no, or low EGR flow is the metal DPFE solenoid on the front of the engine or the EGR solenoid at the rear of the intake close to the passenger side. I am a Ford tech with over 35 years of experience. I have seen the ports plugged more times than I can count. I am not pulling this advice out of my butt. I will repeat......on an EGR equipped engine the proper flow of EGR gas is very important to keep the head temperatures proper. Without proper flow the engine WILL PING!!!!!!!

I understand about the EGR, but the vehicle runs FINE until it is at tempeture, even with the EGR disconnected it is pinging, it sounds like a diesel when it pings for awhile, until it does, then wont start back up until colled down for 30 plus min's then its fine until it gets back to temp.

This is all Per Say from the mechanic, am I going to the wrong person?

I give up JD. Or maybe you just can't read. Disconnecting the egr will make it ping. Since you say disconnecting it makes no difference doesn't the bell in your head ring when I tell you the ports inside the engine are plugged? The last time I checked disconnecting it will cause it to NOT WORK. If it doesn't work it will ping. I am sorry I can't help you any more. READ WHAT I SAID ABOUT EGR AND HEAD TEMPERATURE. It pings hot....EGR plugged = heads running too hot. Bloody hell. Some people just refuse to be helped and apparently your "mechanic" is just good enough to get his hands dirty.

So Canuck, the next step is to pull the intake and start cleaning passages? Should JD check the EGR by applying full vacuum, looking for a idle drop or die? What kind of chemical do you use to dissolve the carbon build up? Any other tips?

I gave up on him. He thinks disconnecting it will tell him that it isn't the problem. Yes he should apply vacuum to the EGR while the engine is running and observe what happens. That will tell him if the passages are plugged. If the engine stalls they are not. Next he would have to check the solenoid at the rear of the intake to see if it is in fact applying the vacuum to the valve. then he needs to scan the PID for the DPFE and see what it reads and does. Will he? Nope...he will just report that he disconnected it and it still pinged.

I have been on here posting my problem as per say from my mechanic, I myself am NOT a mechanic. I have been holding my tongue but CANUCK is starting to cross the line.

CANUCK, with your whopping 150 post and 35 years in the business, you can go %%$# yourself. your anger online is not called for and makes you out to be the sterotype white trash mechanic, so hold your tongue or stick it up someones ass.

I have not crossed any lines. I gave you GOOD advice that was ignored. I don't give a rats ass if you ignore the advice or not but don't come back on here and argue the point without trying the cure offered. All the other posters in this thread seem to agree with me. I am sure the moderator will remove you for your vulgar attack on my personality. I fix cars every day for a living. It's a pretty good living and guess what? When I fix one it stays fixed. I am good at what I do. As for my tongue up your ass, I doubt I could get it past your own head.
