I've been lurking around here for several months, since I bought a 99 Taurus wagon, 3.0 DOHC The service idiot light was on, throwing PO401. Researching that here, I found out that's for the EGR, but many said don't do that until cleaning around the throttle body housing. Fine, once nice weather finally gets here! So it's a little hard to start, sometimes...
BUt, day before yesterday, things went downhill really fast. Lurching, backfiring, dying, no power. I correctly guessed plugs and wires, but that was only part of it. I can do the plugs and wires, but it just seemed like something more might be needed.
NTB to the rescue! Yes, NTB. This particular store is great.
They did their super tune up, did the plugs and wires, and then found multiples of multiple vacuum leaks. And, they ran their super-duty, aircraft-quality fuel system cleaner through it.
Problem solved. Runs like a top, idiot light staying off 60 miles later.
I know I couldn't have found the vacuum leaks. Like I said, those guys, at this particular NTB at least, are great.
Next, I'll tackle the cruise control, as suggested elsewhere on this board.
