Question 2000 explorer fuel pump checkout?

Car will not start. I have checked out relay under hood and verified cutoff switch. I would like to check power to the pump, before changing. What is method for checking out fuel pump - don't want to change if not defective.
Thanks

Use your ears !

You should be able to hear the fuel pump run fro about 5 seconds when you first turn the key from OFF to ON.

Also you can usually borrow a fuel pressure gauge from most large auto parts stores. This is the best way to check a fuel pump.

The pump is in the tank, but the connectors are outside of it. Try using a multi meter and check for voltage at the connector. One would be for the pump, the other for the fuel guage sending unit.
Sorry.. I don't know the color scheme of the wires in the connector.

Also... it MAY be that the fuel pump relay gets power from the EEC relay. Thye are usually physically located next to each other.

Default Fuel pump checkout

I cannot hear pump with ignition on. Should have stated that in original post. Either the pump is bad or it is not getting power. That is what I would like to determine.
