Engine & DrivetrainEngines and Drivetrains can be a major problem for a lot of vehicles. If you are having engine or drivetrain problems, you can post your questions/concerns about the issue. Furthermore, if you are in the process of doing an engine rebuild, post your progress with pictures.
Hello to all, this is my first time posting in the forum. My son has a 95 Taurus with an AX4N. A few weeks ago it giving him trouble. From a stop the engine rpm races at take off and then the car starts moving. Once moving it shifts and there does not appear to be any further issues. When the rpm gets up a little you can hear a growl like a hydraulic pump cavitating. Reverse pulls immediatelyand without slippage, but I hear the growl there as well. The growl remains until you put the transmission in park or neutral and then goes away until you put it back in gear and accelerate again. The fluid level is good. It is slightly brown, but not really burnt.
I used to rebuild transmissions years ago, but am not up on the electronic controls. Could this be a range selector or a solenoid?
