Engine & DrivetrainEngines and Drivetrains can be a major problem for a lot of vehicles. If you are having engine or drivetrain problems, you can post your questions/concerns about the issue. Furthermore, if you are in the process of doing an engine rebuild, post your progress with pictures.
what vehicles/ engines would one find these in? i'm not great with elictronics, but all the things described are going on with the girlfriend's 98 contour 2.0...

I have a question. What year did Ford stop using TFI and started using something that is better?
It was a gradual phase out over several years sometime after 2000. Some vehicles got EDIS in between. EEC-IV and its brother the EEC-V and EDIS were replaced with the PTEC module. Many more pins on the connector so the its processor actually fired the plugs directly.

Make sure you put heat sink compound on the back of the tfi module after doing this test or it will most definately fail from heat! Radio hut has a small tube for $2.99
Pulling it off and replacing the heat sink compound every couple years is a good idea and you may as well check the resistance while you have it off. Most parts stores carry a small socket that fits into the openings on the module(super thinwall) Mine has a big knurled chrome handle and you can put different bits into the other side comes in real handy for tight spots. 20 minutes and $3 bux will keep the module happy and working like it should!!

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!
i have a question on my 5.0 ho...I installed a 5.0 ho on a 68 mustang and when i ran my engine it wouldn't go past 3500rpm...it had a grey motorcraft TFI..replaced it with several tfi's form other cars and it would do the same thing. I replaced the PIP and it whent up to 4000rpm's. My uncle gave me a white TFI and now the engine goes up farther not the same response as the other TFI's
I resently bought an ACCEL TFI and it goes back to the same 3500 rpm.....help i realy dont know what to do next...the only codes i have is for the smog pump solenoids.
This greatly increases the reliability, but requires a good bit of effort, materials, and competence; and guides on how to accomplish this are elsewhere on the internet so I won't describe the process here.
