I have a Ford Contour 99 SE, while driving I was trying to brake but the car kept accelerating and revving. I had to really push the brake hard to get it to stop, eventually put it in neutral. In neutral the car wasn't moving but I could still here it revving. When I put it back in gear there was a pop and the front driver side axle broke.
Is the axle the only problem? Is it common for the car to rev while braking with a broken axle? Or is the transmission also broken? If it's both we probably have to dump the car.
