Default 2000 Windstar - Transmission Problem

I have a 2000 Windstar with 186,000km on it.
Today, while driving, I stopped at a red light, and when I stepped on the gas when the light turned green, the van went nowhere. The engine revs up, but the transmission did not engage.
There was no fluid on the ground, the fluid was close to being full and a nice pinkish/red color. Further testing, revealed that Reverse works fine, but none of the Forward gears. There is no grinding noise etc..

Does this sound more like an electrical/module problem rather than a transmission failure? Am I better of taking it to a Ford dealer for problem diagnosis?

If I require a rebuild, am I better off to have it rebuilt or get one from a wrecker? Will a transmission from a 1998 Windstar work?

Thanks in advance for any help.
Bill

Aluminum forward clutch has cracked. Pretty common ocurance. Complete overhaul or replacement is in order at that mileage.

Does anyone know if a transmission from a 1998 Windstar will work?

Thanks.
