Engine & DrivetrainEngines and Drivetrains can be a major problem for a lot of vehicles. If you are having engine or drivetrain problems, you can post your questions/concerns about the issue. Furthermore, if you are in the process of doing an engine rebuild, post your progress with pictures.
OK i have a 1990 ford thunderbird v-6 auto, my radiator hose blew and sucked water/fluid through the air filter to where i put the oil in at, i took my spark plugs out and started it, ran it for like 20 sec. then changed the oil. when i start it it starts and runs fine in park or neutral but when i put it into drive or reverse it dies?!?!?!?!?!? a friend told me it might be a cracked head gasket or a sensor....what do yall think???
do you remember if it overheated? is your check engine light is on? water in the exhaust system plays hell with the O2 sensor and i think also the sensors on the intake. if you pulled the plugs and cranked the engine if water came out the plug holes then you probably have a bad gasket or cracked head.
You can have a blown head gasket or cracked head and coolant will not come pouring out of the spark plug holes. Any coolant in the combustion chamber merely dissipates the spark & prevents the engine from starting (or running real rough at best). When you removed the spark plugs were any of them wet (with green colored liquid - anti freeze) at the electrode end? If so, good chance the gasket is blown or head crack. On a V6 it is a bit difficult to do but look into as many of the spark plug holes as you can, using a flash light and a small mirror, if needed. Look for the presence of coolant on top of the pistons. If you see it, you have a gasket or cracked head problem. A cracked head can only be detected accurately by a pressure test so it is best to take teh heads to a machien shop that does head work to bmachien teh head surfaces & check for cracks.

well there was no anti-freeze in it. its dry, starts and runs but u have to keep it higher than 2000 rpm WHILE its in drive or it dies, but in idle it runs fine....any idea on how much this could run me?
Do a compression test. ($40 deposit at autozone... they have a tool loaner program, you get your money back)
