Ford Forums - Ford Fairlane

Ford Fairlane was produced from 1955 through 1969. The original body design was the full sized Ford body which started out as a family vehicle and slowly evolved into many different available models and body styles. The exterior paint and trim options, seemed endless with elaborate cloth woven seat covers and a rainbow of paint combinations.

Look for a follow-up story at MyRideisMe.com. I talked to the owner, he's the co-owner of S&S motorcycle engines. I've got pictures of the original 81K mile Cream-puff he started with. Very cool guy!

Hi folks, new member here.

I am currently tearing down and rebuilding my 64-1/2 mustang.

I disassembled my engine thinking it was a 260.

I cooked the heads, honed and cleaned the block.
sodablasted the pistons and rods, new cam bearings (cam was in great cond.)
when I went to put the piston rings in with a 030 over size, they were way off.

I did some code searching and found it was a fairlane 221.

casting is as follows.

C20E-6015G

I have the GEN and starter to match. the carb is anyones guess.

I am at a standstill unit I can figure out my direction.

I know it is a rare engine and I would like to go orig with a 170 inline 6 or a 260 in my mustang.

Is anyone interested or can someone point me in the right direction.

Alan

Phoenix, Az

I believe the car is bone stock and has 110,000 miles. Is $2000 a very good or a reasonable price for this car in very good condition?

Also do the windows behind the doors roll down on all the models? Also what rear end came in the 66 with a 6 and are they four lug cars? I can post an ebay link if the forum allows it.

I’d like to add self-adjusting brakes like I had on my later Fords from the ’60’s. The kind that adjust the brakes when you back up. Has anybody done this? Are there kits or parts available? Any modifications needed? Has to be easer then adjusting brakes every few months.

My son has a 1962 2 door post Fairlane. It is his daily driver. We were going to put in a Tremec 5 speed, but for now we are having the 3 speed with electronic OD rebuilt/resealed. I personally like the nostalgia of the 3 on the tree.

My question is ......How rare is a 221 V8 car (now 289) with a 3 speed and electronic overdrive? The trans guy says it is rare. How can I find out the production numbers. Not for resale, we found this car and it is in great shape we were just wondering for our own knowledge.

By the way how are the guys doin with the 5 speed conversions? Pics? Thanks Ryan
