Ford Forums - Ford Ranger

More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Hello. I was looking around and I am unable to locate a tonneau cover that will fit my new truck. The sites I have visited all have covers for Ford F150/250/350 and such. It is a 2010 Ford Ranger 4x4 Sport with extended cab (4dr) painted the Midnight Blue color.

This is the first brand new vehicle I have owned and will also be the first vehicle I modify past anything from the manufacturer. I want to make sure I select a quality product that will look nice. I have plans to include a spray in bed liner as well.

Any advice and help out there will be greatly appreciated.

Did a search and found several posts which helped narrow my options, but now I'm at a stand still.
The ranger cranks but never starts. So checked the fuel and spark. No spark read several posts here indicating it could be the crank sensor.
Replaced that today for $18 small price to pay hoping it would work. It didn't work ranger still doesn't start.

Should I start looking to replace the coil pack? I don't have the proper tools and I can't check it properly.

Any insight would be greatly appriciated.

Hi

New member here; I have been lurking a while at multiple Ranger boards and this one seems to be the most knowlegable!

I have 2001 Ranger 3.0l V6 2WD with 117K miles; just bought it about a month ago. I had a problem where the gas gauge would max out past F and stay there. Brought it to a shop; they replaced the fuel sender. Worked OK for about a week, and then the needle maxed past F again. Only this time, when I stopped then restarted the truck, it reset itself back to where it should have been. Took it back to the shop (gauge working fine); they couldn't get it to be erratic and said they couldn't do much if it was working.
So now, every so often, like every 3 or so days, it maxes out again; then resets when next started. It tends to happen after about 10 mins of city driving, regardless of weather (we have ranged from low 40's to 70 the past few weeks). When I turn off the truck, the needle stays maxxed out past F. Resets when restarted, seems to work fine for a while. Other than that, the truck runs just fine.
Very confusing to me! I've searched the board here and didn't come up with anything similar, so any ideas would be much appreciated!

So, basically here's the problem. I have an '89 Ford Ranger 4 cylinder carburated. I recently had the timing belt, water pump, and the oil changed. It starts up and runs great, always has, until recently. It has 80K on it and it's been well taken care of. Recently, after the work above was done, it seems to not start after I have parked it for a brief period of time. It starts up in the morning or in the afternoon just fine, but if I go to the store or something where I'm briefly away and have to come back it often doesn't start. Since it's carburated I can usually take off the air filter and open the carb valve/barrel and it will fire right up. I have some speculations on what may be causing this, but I'm hoping for a more experienced opinion. Any help or insight is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello all,

I lost my reverse on my Ranger recently. Don't know what to do, tranny shop wants 1200 for a rebuild .. Ouch!!!

When I put her in reverse it just sounds like its in Neutral. Nothing catches at all. It will roll back np in Nuetral and Reverse

Did a little research and it seems like I lost my low/reverse band. I am getting no engine breaking in 1st. Fluid level is fine.

Thinking about finding a used tranny at one of the salvage yards but there not cheap either.

Anyone else ever had this problem...is there any alternatives that I may be able to do. I can drop the transmission if needed , goiing to need to do that anyway, for a swap....Is there anyadjustments on the low/reverse band I can check...?

Hello All,

I have a 2001 2.3 liter 5 speed ranger. The transmission is not syncronized so its always been a bit difficult especially in cold weather to switch gears.

I recently had a new slave cylinder put in as well as the line going to master cylinder. Thsi was about 10 months ago and everything was fine.

Recently, when I press the clutch at say 3000 rpms , it takes a moment for the rpms to slow down enough so I can switch gears. Also, when I am at a red light or stop sign in 2nd gear with clutch pressed in at idle, the rpms drop and the engine stall. It does not stay at idle.

I checked the reservior and its full so no leaks. It does get a little better on warmer days and if I have been doing stop and go traffic. But when I go 30 miles on highway and then onto exit ramp, same issue. Its very tough switching gears and if I have to idle , it stalls.

When I pump clutch 20-30 times , I do have some success. Should I pump clutch with engine on or off.?

Also, what could this issue be?

Thanks in advance

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger 4.0 V6 and boy have I used this forum a lot. My most recent problems is as follows:

About 3 weeks ago my truck died while driving in a parking lot. The battery was dead, so i jumped it, made it about 60 miles, then it died multiple times over that weekend.

I replace the battery with a supposedly good one from NAPA.

While driving this week, my lights started to dim, my radio turned barely audible, my battery light started flickering (not flashing periodically) and my truck died at an intersection.

That night I jumped it again, hoping to get it home to look at it. Well it barely made it before dying again.

I had the battery checked at autozone, they said it was dead so i jumped it long enough to get the alternator checked, the guy said it's only outputting 9.4 volts, not enough apparently.

I bought a new alternator and am hoping to install it tomorrow morning on my day off, i hope this is the problem, and i wont have more problems with it.

I guess what i asking (sorry for the long post) is that...

"is the alternator really the problem?!?!?" also
"does anybody have any hints on installing the alternator? i've never done it before and just plan on searching here or youtubing a solution.

Thanks all, you guys rock.

I have a 2005 Ford edge 4x4, one of the problems i have recently come into contact with is the little traction it gets when there is rain and obviously snow/ice. i have two questions....is it bad to always drive with 4 wheel drive? if not, should i keep it in low or high 4WD? I've noticed on any slick roads, with the rear wheel drive, the wheels always spin out, due to the lack of weight in the bed of the truck, what is the recommended weight in order to correct this problem? sand?

:confused:I have a 1994 Ford Ranger extended cab, 4x4, 4.0 L, 4 speed automatic. I love my truck. However, I am having problems. I seem to be getting transmission fluid in the oil in the crank case. I do not know why. I noticed a few months ago that the tranny fluid was low and have to put a little in every couple weeks. Then I noticed my exhaust was smoking one day and decided that I really had to check this. I checked my engine oil dipstick and it was way over the full mark. So then I decided to drain the crank case and put new oil in. I had a couple more quarts of oil come out when I drained it. I checked the radiater and all the other fluids. The only fluid low has been the transmission. I then proceeded to put a fresh oil filter and fresh oil in the engine again so that I could keep an eye on this. Does anybody know how the transmission fluid can get into the crank case? Can it be fixed? Does anybody have a diagram, schematic or anything that they can send me to help me figure out the problem or how this is happening? I would like to take care of the problem now before my engine or transmission is ruined. I really love this truck. Never had a vehicle that I loved this much.
