Ford Forums - Ford Taurus

Along the way, Ford has made some 500 changes to the Taurus, changes that were already scheduled for the mid-cycle freshening of the Five Hundred. The general body shape of the new Taurus is the same as that of the previous Five Hundred, a large, front-wheel-drive family sedan, but almost everything else has changed for the better.

Hey guys lately I have had a funny smell almost like antifreeze coming in from the vents. The cars windshield is almost always foggy when I get in it but if I get on the highway the fog goes away but when I get off the highway and I do city driving it starts to fog up again with the blower on full blast. My A/C clutch relay is disconnected due to a bad condenser would the AC being disconnected have anything to do with it?

This started happening maybe a month or two after I did a cooling system flush replaced the water pump and thermostat. I checked the antifreeze level and its full I haven't touched it and it seems to be fine. Car never over heats and runs fine. Could this possibly be my heater core?

Ford Taurus 2001 3.0 ohv. I have a few questions about this car. There is a little elbow near the thermostat, which returns water back to the water bottle, what is this called and the purpose? How hot should the water in the bottle get? How can I tell if it's too hot? Right now when I take off the cap, it releases some pressure and some steam constantly airs out. Is that normal? Also, there was a leak in the water bottle. Figured owner put too much water in the bottle and ruptured the tank?

Reason I ask this, I just replace the head gasket on this car. Not sure what caused it cause it's not my car, and the owner has no idea. Thanks for reading and any help is very much appreciated!

Thanks.

Every blue moonfor about 2 years I would try to start my car and it would start but chug and buck like it was missing. I would shut the car off, re-start, and all would be fine. This seemed to occur usually after filling up the tank but always ran fine right after second start.

The other morning I drove car as usual, parked in driveway and 3 hours later I went to start car and it just cranked but no ignition. Then the 4th attempt it started and ran fine. This morning I started car and experienced the same chugging, turned off, re-started, no luck. Third time re-started and I gave it some gas and it smoothed out and all was fine. Hour later it started fine. 2 hours later started and chugged then it died on it's own. Every effort to start just got the same chug and miss. Waited a few hours and now it just turns over but no attempt to start. Heard the fuel pump engage the first couple times but not after that.

Any ideas where to start or is it tow truck time?

2003 Ford Taurus- The following could happen when starting, maintaining steady rate, or decelerating , or accelerating, there is no one time it does...

2003 Ford Taurus- The following could happen when starting, maintaining steady rate, or decelerating , or accelerating, there is no one time it does this: car loses power, still running, but no response when stepping on accelerator, It may recover and keep going normally, or it could stall. It could begin behaving on its own and I am not in control of the engine accelerator, i.e. the rpm. It could recover as I am driving and begin racing the engine, jumping up to 4xxx RPM, back to zero, up to 4000 rpms, in an up and down fashion with no input from the gas pedal. If it stalls, it will not start backup immediately. It takes several tries, each one the car seems to be trying to start, but dies again, or it races the engine RPM and if my foot was not on the brake it would take off on its own. A mechanic has worked on it repeatedly without being able to fix it and now says it is the computer after a year of trying to fix this. IT has gotten worse over time in that the frequency has increased of it acting this way. There is always a sulfur smell when this happens.

Optional Information:
Year : 2003
Make : Ford
Model: Taurus

Already Tried:
fuel pump replaced / throttle sensor replaced/ Checked all electrical connections/ no change ........

I have a 93 Taurus Wagon with the 3.8L I bought as a project.

I already had the super fun job of replacing the sub frame bushings, including drilling out the floorboards.

Now I have a cooling fan that does not want to work normally.

If I turn the heater or a/c on it engages. If I unplug the Temp Sensor it kicks in low for about 5-10 secs then kicks into high speed.

I have let the car heat up to the top end of it's safety limits and it will still not kick in without heat/ac on or unplugging temp sensor.

I have replaced the relay module with one exactly the same and replaced the temp sensor and now am kinda stumped as to where to go from here.

Any help/ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks
