The Ford Escape has been thoroughly updated, reinforcing the character and appeal that have made it America's perennial best-selling small sport-utility vehicle. The improvements nearly cover the spectrum, and inject a new level of refinement. We'd call the Escape a little truck among small SUVs. Its new styling deliberately invokes Ford's larger, truck-based SUVs.

Hi everyone..

I recently bought a few blue 12v L.E.D. bars to put into my escape under the dash and front seats. I also looked at some of the ford PDF files about installation. I dont have the "ford kit" so without the kit, can anybody tell me the wherabouts of the wire and color that I should look to splice into in order for my A.L. to run when its dark out? pics always help.

Thanks... any help would be greatly appreciated. More than likely been asked and answered b4, but i did a search and didnt find what I was looking for.

cheers

I have an 02 Ford Escape XLT 4wd, automatic 3.0L. The transmission blew up about a year ago and I had it replaced, but since then the 4wd doesn't work. I put all 4 tires up in the air and had someone put the car in drive and slowly let the tires roll. The drive shaft going to the rear diff spins, but the large pumpkin shaped assembly (not the diff) that the drive shaft goes into doesn't seem to be putting the energy through and into the rear axle.

The car was towed with only the front wheels in the air for about 25 miles when the transmission blew.

The questions are: What is this part called (the dealer said the only description they have is a "Viscous Coupling")? Is this the result of it being towed and, if so, is there any way to repair it? Where, other than the dealer, can I find a replacement if it can't be repaired? Lastly, is there any way to either substitute it for something better (like a transfer case) or remove it altogether?

Thank you.

I got a 2001 escape and a 2002 explorer. Wife wants to trade in one for a car. I cant decide which one to keep for the coming winter driving. I live in West Virginia where winter isnt deep and horrible but we get these slick dustings and few inch snows that end up an icy mess with our poor road crews who dont believe in salting til after the snow has fell. Either way I have 17 month old who depends on me to safely take him to grandmas 30 minutes away on the interstate when we have to work. Either vehicle I plan on putting winter tires on. I like the car like handiling and front wheel drive with the 4wd on switch of the escape but Im used to a regular rear wheel drive with 4wd setup for the last few winters Ive lived here Ive had jeeps. thanks in advance Ive researched and heard great things on both.

Ok, Ive been scouring the internet for about 2 hours trying to find a part number for replacement carpet for my 01 escape and have hit a brick wall. Can anyone help me out? I will call Ford on monday, but wanted to have as much info as possible ready for them, it is Tan carpet BTW.

reason for replacement is a leaky seal, 10inches of rain fell here in NC a few weeks ago and since I didnt know it was leaking the car sat for about 2 weeks with the windows up. now the carpet/padding is moldy! ARG!! :incazzato:

I must be being punished by the escape gods for riding the Harley, and not givin the escape any love for the past few weeks!

I've been told that my daughter's catalytic converters are clogged on her 2001 Tribute. Surprise, surprise!

I've recently replaced the EGR tube and valve, plugs, fuel filter and coolant temperature sensor. BTW, the EGR is a snap from the top of the engine vs. the gravel side, as suggested by Hayne's.

Is the removal/replacement worth tackling on my own? I'm fairly comfortable with this kind of thing, as long as I have my Hayne's book in my left hand.

Any alternative suggestions?

All help is greatly appreciated.
