Ford Forums - Ford Expedition

True expeditions require additional transportation conveyances: horses, boats, cars, for example. With a towing capacity around 9,000 pounds, the Ford Expedition can tow any of these. Ford adds a new top end King Ranch model for 2008, as well as an available rear backup camera and power-retractable running boards. The Expedition is meant for utility, not posing.

1999 4X2 4.6L. 125K. Maintence is pretty darn up to snuff too. Original gas cap though.

I was told I might be replacing the Fuel Tank Pressure sensor (Ford # XS4Z9C052AA), the Evap canister Vent Solenoid (Ford # F75Z9F945CA), the EVAP Canister its-self (might be plugged up), and/or maybe the Vapor Canister Valve/Solenoid (up above brake booster on firewall; Ford # F75Z9C915AA).

Which would you guys tackle 1st? I'm planning on replacing 1 at a time until the failing component is found. :mad2: I'm thinking the FTP sensor & Vapor Canister Valve have Motorcraft #'s which will save me SOME $.

I've already replaced most of the EVAP rubber hoses as they looked old & cracked when I changed the oil last, so I'm pretty sure I'm safe there. Most of those lines are steel anyways running the length of this SUV.

I am planning to buy an expedition 4x4 this week. I have several that I will be looking at Thursday and Friday. I sold my Tahoe a couple weeks ago to buy a 4x4 with 3rd row seating. The Suburbans are to long and the Durangos are Chrysler products, so Expedition it will be! I am looking at 1998 to 2000 models, are there anythings in partictular I need to look at when I drive one? I am planning to do mild off roading in it so I will be replacing the tires. What is the largest tire I can put on these models in stock form? Are there any easy ways to lift the expedition to accomidate larger tires? I would like to go with a beefy 33" if possible. My favorite that I have found is a 2000 eddie bauer 4x4 with 162k miles. Any + or - feedback will be greatly appreciated.

BTW: This vehicle will serve as a 3rd vehicle for our family and will be used mainly on weekends and such, not as a daily driver....

I have a 2000 EB Expedition. Today I went to put the drivers window down and nothing. I can hear a click coming from under the dash when I push the down button for the window.

My question is this, is there a relay under the dash that could be bad even though it "clicks" or is the power window motor? Is there a way to test this without taking the door panel off?

I guess anything can and will go wrong but I have just a bit over 62K miles and the last time I drove it the window worked fine.

Well, we did our first fill up of our new 2005 Expedition last weekend. I just checked the trip meter and it's at 60.5 miles traveled. Our fuel gauge is below the 3/4 mark. Does that sound about right? I've never had a rig dip so fast. I'm still holding out to see how the whole tank comes out. When we bought it we were told he was getting above 13 in the city.

I have a 98 Expedition EB 5.4L 4x4 Expedition that is having problems shifting into 4 wheel drive. When I move the 4x4 selection knob, the various 4 wheel drive lights don't come on in the dash. I know the lights work, because they light up when I first start the engine. Also, I don't hear or feel anything happening underneath by the transfer case.

A few months ago, I was able to shift into A4WD, but not 4H or 4L. Now, I can't shift into any of them.

I had this problem about 18 months ago right after the transfer case was rebuilt. Since it had just been in to the mechanic I took it back under warranty. The mechanic told me that all it needed was to be "reprogrammed," and they had it working in short order.

Is there any truth to having to "program" the 4 wheel drive? If so, how do I do this? Any other thoughts on what the problem might be and how I can diagnose/fix it?

Thanks in advance. I sure would like to have my 4 wheel drive back before the snow starts to fly. :)

My 97 has right at 200k miles on her, and the idle, while not bad, is a bit rough. I was thinking about just running a can of Seafoam through the tank with some 93 octane (which is what I always use). I'm sort of iffy on running the second can through the intake as I'm not sure what ill effects it might have on an engine that high in miles.

Will putting can through the tank really have that much of an effect?

One thing to add is that the fuel filter, spark plugs have been changed recently.

As always, thanks in advance!

I am in the process of replaceing my heater core. The local dealer wanted $740 so I decided to tackle this myself. \

#1 Does the steering column have to be removed/lowered or is it just to make things easier?

#2 Does the console have to moved? The manual that I have does not clearly point out what exactly needs to be removed.

I got the dash panel loose but its sticking in the middle. I have not removed the console yet but everything else is disconnected and now the driver's seat wont move.

#3 Will reconnecting the three square block-plugs by the Vacuum booster restore power to the seats?
