I had a 93 f250 come into our shop with the slave leaking, inspected the clutch and decided to change it while I was in there. Install finished I was unable to get the clutch to release completely. Everything seems to be in good shape. Found out after some prying that the customer had previously swapped in an engine from a 97. Wondering if anyone has come across this before and if they have found a simple solution. The 97 engine lists a different clutch and flywheel than the 93.

Hey, guys, since I've had this '97 Thunderbird, I have been adding products like Chevron Techron and Gumont Regane at every fill-up which supposedly clean one's fuel system, injectors, valves, remove water out of the system, etc. Is there a "go to" product in this regard that really works, or am I simply throwing my money down the proverbial rat hole?

Oops, I almost forgot the most important question I had with regards to fuel: Although the car can run on 87 octane, can one actually harm the engine by going with 89 or 91 octane? It sure runs beautifully with 91 octane, but are there any long term harmful effects that can take place using the better, more expensive gas (It's around $3.05 per gallon in San Diego right now btw)?

Thanks a lot. :)

Hi

New member here; I have been lurking a while at multiple Ranger boards and this one seems to be the most knowlegable!

I have 2001 Ranger 3.0l V6 2WD with 117K miles; just bought it about a month ago. I had a problem where the gas gauge would max out past F and stay there. Brought it to a shop; they replaced the fuel sender. Worked OK for about a week, and then the needle maxed past F again. Only this time, when I stopped then restarted the truck, it reset itself back to where it should have been. Took it back to the shop (gauge working fine); they couldn't get it to be erratic and said they couldn't do much if it was working.
So now, every so often, like every 3 or so days, it maxes out again; then resets when next started. It tends to happen after about 10 mins of city driving, regardless of weather (we have ranged from low 40's to 70 the past few weeks). When I turn off the truck, the needle stays maxxed out past F. Resets when restarted, seems to work fine for a while. Other than that, the truck runs just fine.
Very confusing to me! I've searched the board here and didn't come up with anything similar, so any ideas would be much appreciated!

Hi guys
Two days ago the van wouldn't start. No check engine light. I did some tests and found that i had no spark and when i checked the coil with an ohm meter it was out of spec. I also checked the crank position sensor and there was nothing on the A/C scale while cranking it over.
I changed both components and it now starts and runs, however, when it is hot it is very hard to start and i get lots of black smoke ou exhaust and i have to floor the gas pedal for it to start. also if i disconnect some of the sensors, like Mas, intake heat, oxygen, i still do not get a check engine light.

A friend of mine is having a problem with his 93 mustang 5.0 V8 manual . The car will start back up fine when you kill the engine with the key. If you kill the engine with the clutch, it takes about 20 minutes before it can start again. I suspect some sort of fuel delivery problem, as in maybe fuel keeps getting pumped into the cylinders after the car dies, whereas shutting off the key would kill the power to the fuel pump. Any help will be appreciated.

I've read several of the threads on this but never found a definative answer. Some said do it from the top of the engine with a serpentine tool. Some said use a 15 mm box end. Others said 13 mm box end.
A few said to just pull the belt hard at the alternator (i'm not that strong a guy). And a few said from the under the van. Well I changed my alternator yesterday and tried all three. Here is what worked best for me and it only took about 15 minutes from start to finish.
1. Have some help there for belt removal and reinstall.
2. Release the tension from under the van with a 13 mm box end wrench on the tensioner pulley nut.
3. Can't remember which way my son moved the tensioner but if it doesn't move one way, move it the other way.

Hello,

I've got a 1999 Explorer XLT with the 6 cyl. 4.0 SOHC and I recently gave it an oil change. Since I did the oil change probably 75 percent of the mornings I start the car, I get a check gauge warning and a zero pressure reading for oil. The engine sounds fine though and after I shut it off and check the level, and the pan and filter for leaks by the time I get back in to start it, the pressure reading if fine. The reading is then fine the rest of the day I use it and I don't hear anything extraordinary. But the issue starts all over again in the morning. Does anyone think this a gauge problem or an actual engine problem?

Thanks,

Alex

Hello,

I have a 1998 Ford Contour SE. It has a Duratec 2.5. And the transmission code is F73P-AB.

It goes into reverse sometimes, and it won't shift out of 1st gear. I doesn't throw codes, and the transmission fluid doesn't smell burnt or look terrible. Could it just be a sensor, not throwing a code?

And the next question, can I interchange different trannies? Like code F73P-AA or F83P-CA, can I swap one of those if I change the torque converter as well? What is the difference?

I'm new to Ford, thanks in advance.

I recently changed the transmission on my 1994 Exploder 4X4 (A4LD).

I did the KOEO and KOER tests and the only code I got was 176 i.e. Left O2 Sensor Lean.

I note that only because I don't know if it is related to the problem I am having.

Problem:

When cold, the vehicle builds adequate RPM however, the tranny does not respond equally. It kind of lags.

After the vehicle is warm you feel the more power and the tranmission responds normally.

While driving from that point on, everything operates normally.

After I shut down and park for 20 or more minutes, the same situation arises.

My thoughts:

Since I don't know enough about the transmission, I am thinking that it may be the vacuum modulator on the tranny,

OR

There maybe a vacuum leak.

Questions:

1. If the vacuum modulator is bad will it cause the problem? (Not sure what it does)

2. Could it be the PCM?

3. If none of the above, could you please help with probable culprit.

Thanks in advance
