I was going to replace my front struts on my 2001 Taurus, but it looks like a bigger job than I anticipated. I replaced my back struts this weekend. According to other web posts, to do the front, you need to disconnect the CV joint, seperate the ball joint, disconnect the tie rod end, etc. to replace the strut. Is that true? I know I have to disconnect the stabilizer link from the strut, but the rest of the componants are not even touching the strut...Any advice?

Thanks!

I have a 2005 Ford Taurus. I’ve noticed in the past couple of days this random grinding. It seems to start when the brake is pushed, but will continue for about a block while driving. Whatever it is, it seems to work itself out. Sounds like it’s coming from the back, but I’m not for sure. Also, it doesn’t feel like I have bad breaks. The first time I noticed it was after sitting at a drive thru and then pulling away. It also did it again when my boyfriend slammed on the breaks to see if it did it again.
Does anyone have any ideas what it could be? I have changed the front breaks about 2 years ago and had them checked a couple of months ago. I was told that they were still good. I have not ever changed the back breaks.

Thanks for the help!

After a few days of wondering why the gas mileage was slipping on my 1999 E-350 SuperDuty, I've discovered that the right rear brake is dragging. I haven't torn it down yet, but I am assuming the the caliper is sticking. Since its been awhile since my last Ford vehicle, I need to know whether it would be worth the effort to pull it apart, clean up the sliding surfaces & mounting points, and slip another set of pads in OR should I just replace the caliper.

My past experience with Mopar discs dictates that replacing the caliper would make for a more permanent solution than just cleaning things up. Is this consistent with the Ford calipers? I know I'm comparing apples to oranges, but I can only go off what I've learned in the past...

Thanks!

I have a 2001 Ford Taurus, and am in need of 4 struts (broken spings in back). I've been looking at the Monroe Quickstruts, but really don't want to spend the $. I saw another brand on Ebay that were 1/2 the price of the Monroe Quick strut. I could get all 4 struts for under $500...and they are like quick struts. The brand name is Pro-Strut (by CRS). Has anyone ever heard of this brand? Are they any good, or are they junk?

I have 135,000 miles on the car...I really don't care too much about a smooth ride. I just want to make it safe.

Any input?
